Advertising and Digital Promotion Activities

Four campaigns aired in 17 countries

In January, the İstanbul is the New Cool, Coming Soon, Safe Tourism, and Marmaris advertising campaigns were broadcast across 17 different countries and achieved 8,467 GRPs. In digital campaigns, four different promotional films were broadcast across 86 countries, reaching a total of 1.4 billion views. About 10 million unique visitors visited the GoTürkiye website in January.

Events and Organizations

A total of 72 people hosted in January

At 10 events, organized across nine cities in Türkiye in January, a total of 72 people were hosted by TGA. The guests, including 30 press members and 20 influencers, were from 19 countries. The posts from these hospitality events garnered a total of 10 million views. Highlights of the events held throughout January are as follows:

Influencers and journalists from 16 countries discover Erzurum
To promote the potential of winter tourism and winter sports in Erzurum and its surroundings, a foreign press and influencer hosting event was held between 10-19 January. A total of 26 people, including 10 influencers and 16 members of the press, enjoyed a variety of winter tourism products, from skiing to paragliding. The group was hosted in Istanbul following the Erzurum program.
Argentine TV team spotlights Istanbul
A three-person team from Argentina’s “Resto Del Mundo” broadcast was hosted by TGA. Filming at many locations in Istanbul, the team was introduced to the city’s cultural routes and local experiences.

Thumbs up to Isparta and Antalya from Malaysia

An influencer event for the Malaysian market was organized by TGA between 19-24 January to promote winter tourism in Antalya and Isparta. A team of 10 influencers from Malaysia visited the historical and cultural areas of Isparta and Antalya and produced introductory content. Enjoying a range of activities that included carpet weaving, skiing and a trip to the rose gardens, the team was able to experience four seasons at the same time in Antalya.

Kars introduced to Israeli agencies

A FAM Trip (Familiarisation Trip) was organized to promote the Kars region and its hotels in the Israeli market. Held between 30 January and 2 February, the event included a press conference. In addition, the Israeli agency and a seven-person press group had the opportunity to explore the region’s historical and cultural areas and visit hotels with high sales potential.

Istanbul tour for coexistence artists

Thirteen artists from nine countries participated in the Coexistence Exhibition, which was opened by the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy at Atatürk Cultural Centre. Between 15-16 January, the artists visited the historical and cultural sites of Istanbul and produced content for their social media accounts.

Support from TGA to the Antalya Winter League

The Antalya Winter League is an international football initiative started to contribute to the development of football tourism in Türkiye and to increase the number and quality of teams coming to Türkiye for training camps. The Antalya Winter League hosts an international football tournament and a convention event that includes panels with international speakers and booths. In this context, TGA presented a gala dinner to foreign guests attending the event in order to expand the international interaction of the organization and to differentiate Antalya positively in football tourism. At the same time, special promotional content was produced within the scope of WL Talks Türkiye content. Tourism products and destination promotions were held in the TGA stand area.

The first Turkish driver in Formula 2: Cem Bölükbaşı

Cem Bölükbaşı will break new ground with the Charouz team at the Formula 2 in the 2022 season. Supported by the TGA, Cem Bölükbaşı will be the first Turkish driver to compete in FIA Formula 2. He started his Formula career with a successful performance in the organization’s e-Sports events and then moved from virtual to live races. With Formula 1 as his next step, Cem Bölükbaşı will represent Türkiye throughout the season; his car will display the GoTürkiye logo.

Cruise ships in and out of Greece en route to Bodrum

EU Healthy Gateways and MedCruise officials, who were invited to Türkiye for discussions with Bodrum Cruise Port hosted by TGA. As a result of the negotiations, it is anticipated that, in addition to the Bodrum Cruise Port-Bodrum Passenger Port, all other Turkish ports will be opened to cruise ships entering and leaving Greece. In the past months, following visits and meetings supported by the TGA, the Istanbul Galataport and Kuşadası Egeport ports were opened to cruise traffic.

International Fairs and Events

Türkiye and GSTC cooperate on sustainability

Hosting 30 million visitors last year, despite the pandemic conditions, with the Safe Tourism Certificate, Türkiye signed a cooperation agreement with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the top accreditation institution of sustainability standards. Thus, Türkiye and GSTC are setting an example for the world with an agreement to develop a national program for the first time in the field of sustainable tourism before the government.

Intense interest in the Turkish pavilion at FITUR

FITUR, one of the world’s leading tourism fairs, was held in Madrid, Spain, between 19-23 January. Prepared by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and TGA, the Turkish pavilion at the Fair attracted great attention. As well, participating Turkish companies held productive meetings with other participants. In addition, TGA Deputy General Manager Dr Elif Balcı Fisunoğlu conducted a presentation.

WTA management meets in Madrid

The World Tourism Organization Board of Directors, to which TGA was appointed in December as a member for the 2022-2025 period, held its first meeting in 2022 in Madrid. Deputy General Manager Dr Elif Balcı Fisunoğlu represented TGA at the meeting, which also included the election of the new term’s president and vice presidents.

Provinces and Destination Promotion Studies

Board meetings held in seven provinces

The provinces of Adana, Hatay, Bitlis, Muş, Afyon, Amasya and Yalova completed the signing process of the Promotion and Development Board Cooperation Protocol within the scope of the Provincial Promotion and Development Program (ITGP). The Program is carried out to ensure more effective promotion of provinces and sub-destinations in the national and international arena. Board meetings were held for these provinces; as well, the Muğla 2. Board Meeting was held.

TGA’s provincial trainings drew 470 people

Within the scope of provincial trainings organized by TGA, sessions were held for the provinces and stakeholders in the Provincial Council list, including Adana, Isparta, Bolu, Ordu, Konya, Erzurum, Kars, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, Edirne, Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, Muş, Batman, and Bitlis. The ten training sessions were “Destination Marketing”, “Positioning”, “Sustainability in Tourism”, “Provincial Surveys and Competition”, “Being a Gastronomy Destination”, “Creating Routes”, “Social Media”, “Our Aeneas in Terms of Cultural Diplomacy”, “What Museums can Change in the Contemporary World?”, and “Tourism and Being a Destination in Tourism”. A total of 470 people attended the training sessions.

New Instagram accounts of five provinces go live

Within the scope of the relevant articles of the Promotion and Development Board Cooperation Protocol, the Batman, Muş, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, and Konya Instagram accounts became operational in January, under the roof of @gezsen (domestic) and @go (international). In addition, within the scope of the Provinces Brand study, and the digital advertising campaign with Amadeus, a dynamic data bank also called the Global Distribution System, approximately 25 million views have been achieved to date, while approximately 1.3 million views and 110,000 reservations have been obtained from the advertised agencies.
